Thailand: Bangkok – Security Incident: Initial Advice

Barrhead Business Travel have been made aware of a series of explosions that have occurred in Bangkok, Thailand.

It is reported that there have been three small explosions in Bangkok on Friday. The first explosions were heard just before 9 a.m. (0200 GMT) at two sites near central Bangkok. A third blast was heard shortly afterwards at a government complex hosting several ministries on the northern side of the city.

Initial reports indicate that three people have been injured.


Thailand FCO Travel advice update

The FCO has updated the travel advice for Thailand with amendments to the Summary – There has been a report of explosions at 3 locations in Bangkok. Initial information is that these have occurred at the Government Complex recreational park on Chaeng Wattana Road, near Chong Nonsi BTS (skytrain) station, and in sub-soi (side road) 57/1 of Rama 9 road in Bangkok. We are monitoring the situation. Please follow the advice of Thai authorities regarding the explosions.

Summary

There has been a report of explosions at 3 locations in Bangkok. We are monitoring the situation. Please follow the advice of Thai authorities regarding the explosions.

The overall level of the advice has not changed, there are restrictions in place.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all but essential travel to areas within the provinces on the Thai-Malaysia border, including:

  • Pattani
  • Yala
  • Narathiwat
  • Southern Songkhla province. Our advice against all but essential travel does not include areas north of and including the A43 road between Hat Yai and Sakom, and areas north-west of and including the train line which runs between Hat Yai and Pedang Besar.
