BARRHEAD TRAVEL LAUNCHES NEW TRAINING ACADEMY

Barrhead Travel has made a significant investment to launch a brand new training academy in Glasgow city centre.

The innovative academy, based in Bothwell Street, boasts state-of-the-art facilities and technology, and has been designed with the look and feel of a modern branch, providing staff with a familiar learning and development environment. It also features an outside learning space, which is considered to be a first for the industry.

The investment in the training centre comes during a period of sustained expansion, as the leading independent travel group continues to increase its branch footprint across the UK.

Barrhead Travel chief executive Sharon Munro said: “Our people are our business, and are firmly at the heart of our strategy for growth.

“Our in-house training team has doubled in size in recent years, and this new academy gives us a positive learning environment to develop and grow our people across the whole of the business.

“This latest investment will also help us attract, grow and retain the best people in the industry.”

The chief executive also revealed that the Barrhead Travel has introduced a new management development programme into its training portfolio.

She added: “Our training programme is well-established, offering opportunity and career progression for our staff and leading apprentice programme.

“We are always exploring pioneering and engaging ways to educate and train our people, as part of our commitment to promote and develop from within.

“With this in mind we have developed a new 12-month management programme which enables our staff to meet their professional development aspirations and play a key role in the growth of Barrhead Travel.”

About Barrhead Travel:

Founded in 1975 by an ex-bank worker, Bill Munro, and operating from an unremarkable shop in the south Glasgow suburb of Barrhead with just one member of staff and a YTS, Barrhead Travel's first steps in the travel business were tentative and small. The firm successfully completed the acquisition of UK-based cruise agency ‘The Holiday Specialists’ in December 2012, a deal worth in the region of £3 million. In addition the company launched its first trade-focused sub-brand, Brilliant Travel in August 2013. The new brand will oversee expansion of its managed service branches, home-based travel advisors and corporate partnerships.
